If you havenโ€™t tried pomegranate molasses before then this is your sign to do so! I love using this sweet & sticky ingredient in this Pomegranate Molasses Dressing, which is the perfect salad dressing for dressing Mediterranean and Middle Eastern style salads.ย

This homemade vinaigrette is so simple to make and uses just a handful of ingredients, a bowl and a whisk. I have seen pomegranate salad dressings made using pomegranate juice instead of the molasses but I find the molasses gives a deeper pomegranate flavour.ย

Whatโ€™s to Love This About Pomegranate Molasses Dressing Recipeย

  • allergy friendlyย โ€“ this salad dressing is dairy free, nut free, egg free and gluten free.ย
  • easy to makeย โ€“ this recipe is beginner level with no technical cooking skills required.ย
  • deliciousย โ€“ the sweet, tangy and tart flavor of the pomegranate is absolutely delicious in this salad dressing.ย
  • make aheadย โ€“ make this dressing in advance to drizzle over salads during the week.ย

Dressing Ingredients Notes & Substitutions

Below is a list of all of the ingredients that you will need to make this Pomegranate Molasses Dressing. Most ingredients can be found at your local grocery store but you may have to look around for the pomegranate molasses. I found some in my local organic grocer but deliโ€™s, Middle Eastern grocers and fruit & veg shops may have some. Iโ€™ve listed any possible substitutions as well. All of the ingredient quantities can be found in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.ย

  • pomegranate molassesย โ€“ if you havenโ€™t heard of pomegranate molasses before, it is a thick, dark syrup that tastes tangy, tart and sweet. It can be used in a range of recipes including salad dressings, drizzled on cooked vegetables, made to use desserts or drizzled over ice cream. Iโ€™ve seen some recipes add honey to their pomegranate molasses dressing but this is unnecessary because the pomegranate molasses is definitely sweet enough.ย
  • fresh lemon juiceย โ€“ Iโ€™ve used lemon juice as the acid for this dressing as it is the perfect accompaniment to pomegranate. You could also use balsamic vinegar, which will result in a darker dressing or a mix of white wine vinegar and apple cider vinegar.ย
  • Dijon mustardย โ€“ Dijon mustard adds a flavour kick and some saltiness to this dressing.
  • extra virgin olive oilย โ€“ feel free to swap for avocado oil or flaxseed oil.ย
  • sea salt flakesย โ€“ if using finely ground sea salt, start with a pinch and add more to taste.ย

How to Make Pomegranate Molasses Dressingย

There are two ways to make this homemade salad dressing. This first way is to add all of the ingredients to a jar, firmly fix the lid on and shake vigorously.ย

We’ll email this post to you, so you can come back to it later!

This is my preferred method:

Add the two tablespoons pomegranate molasses, lemon juice, salt and dijon mustard to a small bowl and whisk to combine.ย

While whisking, slowly start to pour in the olive oil. Continue whisking until the dressing is smooth and all of the olive oil has been incorporated into the other ingredients.ย

Storageย

Store this salad dressing in a glass jar or container with a lid, in the fridge for up to one week. The olive oil will slightly solidify when refrigerated so before use, stand the jar in a bowl of warm water until the olive oil has liquified.ย

Serving Suggestionsย

Here are some of my favourite ways to use this Pomegranate Molasses Dressing.ย

  • drizzled over a salad of red onions, mint, cucumbers and parsley.ย
  • used to dress a Fattoush salad (Middle Eastern salad)ย
  • drizzled over thinly sliced red onion, arugula, fresh pomegranate, cherry tomatoes and fresh herbs.ย
  • tossed through a kale, pomegranate and sweet potato salad salad.

Oops, the Instructions mention adding honey, but honey is not one of the ingredients, and the Notes section says honey is not needed with the sweetness of pomegranate molasses. (“#1 Add the lemon juice, pomegranate molasses, honey, Dijon mustard and salt to a small mixing bowl. Whisk to combine.”)
