I will always love bliss balls as a go-to healthy snack. They are so easy to make and can be filled with nourishing and wholesome ingredients, packing a nutritional punch in a few bites. What are Bliss Balls?

Bliss balls, energy balls, energy bites, power balls or protein balls, whatever you want to call them, are essentially a no-bake snack containing a mixture of blended up ingredients that are rolled into balls. Medjool dates are often used as a base for bliss balls as they are a great natural sweetener while providing the moisture that the bliss balls mixture needs to stick together. Bliss balls are often refined sugar free, gluten-free and dairy-free but this depends on the individual recipe so make sure you check the recipe if you have these allergies or intolerances.ย 

The Best Ingredients to Make Bliss Ballsย 

These are my favourite healthy and nutritious ingredients to use to make all different kinds of bliss bal;sโ€

  • Medjool dates โ€“ dates give the bliss balls a delicious caramel flavour and natural sweetness, while being filled with fibre and other vitamins and minerals.
  • almonds
  • almond flour or almond meal
  • cashews
  • hazelnuts
  • oats
  • vanilla extractย 
  • cacao powder or cocoa powderย 
  • shredded coconut or desiccated coconutย 
  • sunflower seeds
  • sea salt flakesย 
  • hemp seeds
  • chia seeds
  • pepitas
  • nut and seed butters like almond butter, peanut butter, tahini and sunflower seed butter

When made using healthy ingredients like nuts and seeds, bliss balls can be a great source of nutrition.ย 

  • nuts and seeds and nut and seed butters provide healthy fats, vitamins, minerals, protein and fibre. They help to reduce the glycemic index, providing sustained energy.ย 
  • using Medjool dates to sweeten bliss balls gives an energy boost without any added sugar.ย

How to Store Bliss Balls

Most bliss balls store well in the fridge and freezer. Place the bliss balls in an airtight container and store in the fridge or freezer as per the recipes instructions.ย 

Necessary Equipmentย 

  • Food processorย โ€“ this is my favourite food processor as it has an inbuilt scale as well as a blender attachment and bullet blender attachment. I find a food processor much better for making bliss balls then a blender.ย 
  • Bowlย โ€“ for rolling the bliss balls in coconut, sprinkles, crushed nuts etc.
  • Spoonย โ€“ for scooping up the mixture.
