Hey there, thanks for stopping by!

Hey there, thanks for stopping by!

Our Nourishing Table is my corner of the internet that I created where good food is always served and where there is ALWAYS room for one more. It’s the place where I get to share with you the healthy recipes that I share with my family and friends.

So, thank you for being here. I hope you find some new and delicious healthy recipes to add to your cooking repertoire.

Fun fact, I am rather โ€จdigestively challenged.

As someone who is digestively challenged, with a daughter who has an anaphylactic peanut allergy, I love creating recipes with food intolerances and food allergies in mind. I create recipes that are mostly:

  • Gluten Free โ€“ apart from the occasional oat recipe,
  • Dairy Free โ€“ I do use cheese on occasion but will always โ€จprovide substitutions where possible; and
  • Refined Sugar Free โ€“ on the odd occasion I use refined sugar โ€จif itโ€™s what the recipe needs to work but most of my recipes โ€จare sweetened with natural sweeteners.

All of my recipes are clearly labelled because having food intolerances or allergies is already challenging enough, and Iโ€™m here to make your life easier, not harder.

Saturdays spent in the kitchen creating delicious dinners, music playing, pinot noir in hand are my favourite. Some of my most treasured times are the weekends when my husband Ryan cooks the barbecue while I take care of the salads and sides, kids playing outside, swimming, kicking the footie or playing backyard cricket.

I love how food has the power to forge connections.

I learnt to cook at home, taught by my Mum and my Nan. When I think about my Nan now, I can’t help but remember the carrot cakes we baked and the insanely delicious crepes with lemon juice and sugar that we would make nearly every time we stayed (of course I had to make a gluten-free almond flour version). Such sweet memories that make my heart happy.

Almond flour crepes topped with fresh berries, coconut yoghurt and maple syrup on a large platter.

There was no packet mix baked goods or Gravox gravy, everything was made with real ingredients. Mum has always been a keen gardener and was putting flowers in salads before it was cool. Having such an abundant vegetable garden growing up helped inspire my love of salads. I have so many salad recipes but some of my favourites are my Honey Roasted Carrot Lentil SaladRoasted Sweet Potato and Goatโ€™s Cheese Salad and my Roasted Cauliflower and Chickpea Salad

The way I cook now is heavily influenced by how I learnt to cook as a child. Homemade, family-friendly food, vegetable forward recipes and some healthier baking and treats thrown in for good measure.

I try to give my kids the same experiences in the kitchen that I had growing up so that they can learn to be confident cooks, teaching them the skills to create a variety of nutritious food (that also tastes good). As frustrating as cooking with kids can be at times (let’s be real here), I truly believe that it is so important to get them involved in the kitchen.

My health ethos can be summed up in 3 simple points:

  1. I believe in counting nutrients not caloriesโ€จ
Following a restrictive diet has time and time again been proven to be detrimental to not only mental wellbeing, but physical health and weight gain as well. Why? Because there is only so much time your brain will allow you to restrict your calories before it starts sending messages to your body that it needs more. This often results in sugar cravings and overeating. Eating a diet filled with fruit and vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins ensures that you are giving your body what it needs to thrive, reducing cravings and overeating.
  2. Diets do not work but long term, sustainable changes do.โ€จ
Small changes over time are more likely to stick. But don’t forget that allowing yourself to indulge from time to time is a GOOD thing.
  3. To me, good health is more than just eating well.โ€จ
It means fostering meaningful relationships, having fun & truly enjoying the food that is in front of you. And what better place to do that then at the dinner table with the ones that you love.
